On incorporating more of my favorite color back into my life after a prolonged season of depression.
“Is black your favorite color?”
This year I have a goal to take a photo of myself every day. A selfie that I’d keep to myself and create a compilation video at the end of the year. Well, a new friend and I have been sharing our selfies with each other and a few days ago they replied to one of my photos with “I’m going to make an observation, is black your favorite color?”
I don’t know why I’ve been fixated on the subsequent conversation about my favorite color actually being yellow and a revelation that I used to wear it all the time. I even have a friend who affectionately calls me “Ms. Yellow” because I used to wear it so much.
A combination of not feeling comfortable in my growing body, unending depression, and a desire to minimize my wardrobe led me to no longer wear yellow as often as I once did. Instead, I opted to dress my Sweets in yellow as often as I could and it gave me so much joy doing so. One friend even joked that she was going to grow up hating the color because I always had her in it.
Since I’ve been feeling better more often than not, I’ve been finding joy in so many things I used to like hanging art on the walls and seeing the color yellow. I don’t feel the same call to wear it as often as I used to and I am still working on reducing my wardrobe. But, I’m now on a mission to incorporate it back into my life.
