I am so sorry this person’s irresponsible actions affected you so deeply. I understand how it feels to be triggered by devout Christians. They have a really hard time reading the room and asking what people actually need. The part that they miss every time is people have real problems that need tangible solutions not conversion therapy. Sending you a virtual hug for every stage of your journey.
Thank you so much Dominique! Because a large part of my identity once revolved around my former religion, I understand need to do to say something but i wish most practiced the discernment they preached because they’d know to save it lol
Totally agree with you about the religion! 😏 when I was going through intense grief from losing my husband I read several articles that talked about physical exercise helping. I didn’t necessarily feel like it but I started walking at a local park and it did help. I started craving my walk or I would feel stressed again. Exercise releases endorphins which help mood etc. It doesn’t have to be hard or intense just a gentle walk. Best wishes as you figure out a career, I’ve been thinking of getting some training for an online job. Then I could move anywhere I wanted if I work from home. You are a wonderful mom you can tell you put your child first and love her so much. Take care! 😊🌻
Thank you so much Angela! I do enjoy a good walk, I even bought a walking pad so that I could do more of it, sparingly these days lol thank you for reading and thank you for your well wishes.
I love how vulnerable your writing is, and how much truth it holds. Thank you for sharing your contemplations with us- I hope you move cross-country VERY soon! Xx
I’m so sorry. I’m sure that message felt self-serving and like they were after their own agenda vs showing genuine care for you. As someone who identifies as a Christian, I’ve side-eyed these types of conversations. Like Dominique mentioned, it feels irresponsible and tone deaf and further pushes people away in general, not just from the faith. Seems like they feel it’s their duty as Christians to say “something,” but I think we’d all be more impactful by simply showing up in love. And for Christians, just being an example of God’s love on earth. And knowing when, IF AT ALL, to bring up certain things with discernment and in deep relationship with a person.
I wholeheartedly agree with this! They were definitely serving their own needs and desires versus actually showing up with love and care. At no time during my struggles did this person try to encourage me, only after I became vocal about stepping away from the faith did this person begin to send me these types of messages. I get the desire to bring people back to Christ, especially because of what folks believe about the eternal fate of non-believers. But if my own father who is a Pastor can resist the urge to pass these types of messages along, surely this person can. Thank you Latoya!
The way my eyes opened wide when I read why they sent that message. The lack of empathy and critical thinking is jarring af and the fact that they don’t recognize that but think they’re actually being helpful is even worse. 🫂

Yesss and that last part! 🙌🏾
I'm so sorry. I find messages like that triggering as well. You deserve better. 🧡
Thank you A.!
